Welcome letter from the Sustainability Community Chair

Join now! Renew now!

Welcome to the CoreNet Global Sustainability Community. We are delighted that you are interested in participating in this group as we exchange knowledge and promote sustainability in the corporate real estate world. The leadership team for North America is in place and is already working on projects for 2010. We are also gathering representatives in EMEA, AZN, and SA, and look forward to working with them to develop content that meets their needs.

We hope that you will engage with this group actively by participating on the various committees which are in place, by recruiting members from your chapters and businesses, and by helping to develop knowledge that we can share across the globe. The Sustainability Community is working with the CoreNet Global Learning team to create more educational opportunities rooted in sustainability. We are also looking to increase our presence in the spring Summits in Singapore and New Orleans by providing material for breakout sessions. Currently the Mid-Atlantic chapter is working on a green leasing project at the request of the Clinton Climate Initiative.

These are just a few of the programs we have in the works - where will you jump in? Commit to being a chapter liaison, to helping to manage our NetWORK, to proposing ideas for Summit presentations, to involving yourself in our research projects . . . The opportunities to interact with the leaders of corporate sustainability worldwide are endless. Feel free to contact Laverne Deckert (404) 589-2345 with CoreNet Global for more information.

We look forward to advancing sustainability in corporate real estate with you!

Alicia Chidsey
Chair, CoreNet Global Sustainability Community

CBRE Taps New Vein From Old Deal

Wall Street Journal (05/16/12) Hudson, Kris

CBRE Group Inc. continues to describe its 2006 acquisition of Trammell Crow Co. as "the deal that keeps on giving." While the $2.2 billion deal saddled CBRE with a huge debt load just two years before the economy tanked, it also elevated the firm into the upper echelon of the property-management business and gave it a steady stream of income to ride out the recession. Now, CBRE has realized another benefit it gained in the deal: its next CEO. The company announced a week ago that ex-Trammell Crow CEO Robert Sulentic has agreed to succeed CBRE Chief... More

Plots & Ploys: London Isn't Calling

Wall Street Journal (05/16/12) Pruitt, A.D.

Some analysts did not applaud when word spread earlier in the year that Boston Properties Inc. was possibly close to acquiring its first office building in London. Critics urged the company to stick to its U.S. roots. Since then, Boston Properties has indeed scrapped plans to acquire Drapers Gardens, a trophy office building in London's financial district. The company, which ranks among the largest office building owners in the U.S., was in talks to purchase the 292,500-square-foot building for a reported sum of $450 million. Private-equity firm...
