Sustainable Commercial Real Estate Consortium (SCRC)

The SCRC’s, formed in September 2009, is a program-tool neutral group that has the long-term goal of leveraging CoreNet Global’s leadership role within the commercial real estate industry to develop and realize a sustainable future for the industry. The SCRC is a multi-lateral stakeholder group consisting of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Professional associations, and public sector groups.

SCRC recognizes that there are significant bodies of existing working and on-going research related to sustainable commercial real estate. The SCRC also recognizes that the Commercial Real Estate sector is highly segmented and fragmented preventing effective collaboration on and dissemination of research. Thus the SCRC primary strategy is to aggregate and harmonize existing bodies of work and fill gaps with program-tool neutral guidelines, guideance, and where appropriate templates and tools through multi-lateral technical working groups, and develop well-publicized knowledge centers.

Work product will be developed through the volunteer efforts of SCRC member’s constituency. As an example, Corenet’s Sustainability Community in conjunction with the SCRC has initiated an effort to address sustainable transactions beginning with the leases and leasing strategies.  The technical working group consists of Corenet members, interested NGOs, and the American Bar Association. Additional members representing other industry stakeholders will be included in the process as this effort mobilizes.

In an effort to stimulate adoption and diffusion, work product from technical working groups will be disseminated though online knowledge centers that will provide free and open access to the SCRC’s work product.

The SCRC currently building its membership which is free.  Membership is open to any program-tool neutral NGO, professional association, and public sector group with an interest in a sustainable commercial real estate sector. The SCRC’s current membership includes: Corenet Global, IFMA, CERES, World Resources Institute, Pew Center on Global Climate Change, Clinton Climate Initiative, Carbon Disclosure Project, Natural Resources Defense Fund.
